nsfw
Definition
Note: The auto:nsfw tag is automatically applied by the system when a post contains content classified as NSFW. It serves as a standard content-warning and filtering flag and is separate from the more restrictive NSFL system.
Definition
NSFW is an acronym standing for "Not Safe For Work." On this site, it identifies content that is sexually explicit, nude, or otherwise inappropriate for ordinary public or professional viewing.
NSFW generally covers conventional adult content, including nudity, sexual anatomy, sexual acts, erotic scenarios, and related adult themes that do not require the heightened filtering associated with the NSFL category.
NSFW is not itself a measure of how explicit, unusual, or objectionable a subject is. Content may be sexually explicit while remaining within the standard NSFW classification, while certain subjects may warrant NSFL classification because of their particular sensitivity or moderation requirements.
Usage
The auto:nsfw tag is automatically applied to posts containing nude, sexually explicit, or otherwise NSFW content that does not require an NSFL classification.
The tag is handled automatically by the system and cannot be manually added or removed by users. Its presence is determined by the applicable content and tag classifications on the post.
NSFW content is available to registered users without the additional opt-in required for NSFL content. Users who do not wish to encounter particular types of NSFW content can use the site's tag-blocking and filtering features to customize their experience.
The presence of a sexual or adult theme does not automatically make a post NSFL. Individual concepts should be classified according to their own definitions, with NSFL reserved for subjects that meet the site's heightened classification criteria.
Moderation & Content Safety
NSFW classification applies to both the textual content of a post and its associated media. The card description and image should therefore be consistent with the classification applied to the post.
Images containing nudity, sexual anatomy, or sexual activity should be appropriately classified even when those elements are not the primary focus of the card's scenario.
Conversely, a character or scenario should not be classified as NSFW merely because it is associated with an adult, sexual, or potentially suggestive concept. The classification should be based on the content actually presented.
Where content also falls under a dedicated NSFL category, the applicable NSFL classification takes precedence for filtering purposes and the post will receive the corresponding auto:nsfl flag.
This allows NSFW to function as the standard adult-content classification while reserving NSFL for content requiring a substantially heightened warning or filtering boundary.
