json

Definition
JSON (JavaScript Object Notation) is a lightweight, structured data-interchange format used to define character traits, lore, and behavioral parameters in AI chatbots. Unlike natural language or loose pseudo-code, JSON relies on a strict, standardized programming syntax of key-value pairs and arrays, making it highly machine-readable for large language models (LLMs).
JSON character definitions typically use a specific structure featuring:
-Curly braces { } to enclose the main character object or nested blocks.
-Square brackets [ ] to define arrays (lists of traits, examples, or dialogue).
-Double quotes " " to enclose all keys and string values.
-Colons : to separate keys from their corresponding values.
-Commas , to separate distinct data fields.
A basic example of JSON formatting for an AI character card:
{
"char_name": "Name",
"personality": ["trait1", "trait2", "trait3"],
"appearance": {
"eyes": "feature1",
"hair": "feature2"
},
"likes": ["thing1", "thing2"],
"dislikes": ["thing1", "thing2"]
}
Usage
Apply this tag when a bot's character definition, scenario card, or system prompt is structured primarily or entirely in valid JSON format.
When NOT to use
-Do not use this tag for bots that use natural language descriptions or plain text formatting.
-Do not use this tag for bots using other formatting styles (YAML or XML) or pseudo-code syntaxes like W++.
-Do not use this tag if the character definition only includes small, isolated snippets of JSON (such as a single nested array) within a larger natural language description.
-Do not use this tag if the syntax is broken or heavily modified to the point where it no longer functions as valid JSON.
