netorare
Definition
Note: Netorare focuses on a character losing their partner to someone else, often emphasizing emotional impact such as jealousy, betrayal, and helplessness. Use this when the perspective centers on the victim of infidelity, not the one initiating it.
Definition
Netorare (NTR) is a Japanese term referring to the experience of having a romantic partner taken away by another person. It describes scenarios where the focus is often on the emotional suffering of the one being betrayed, rather than the act of seduction itself. The appeal centers on feelings such as jealousy, loss, humiliation, and psychological distress caused by the breakdown of a meaningful relationship.
Netorare requires the betrayal/victim perspective to be narratively relevant or intended, but not necessarily fully dramatized at every moment. Especially when the card expects {{user}} to fulfill the role of the betrayed or emotionally affected partner.
Usage
Apply this tag when a scenario meaningfully depicts a character losing their partner and frames the betrayal or emotional impact as an important part of the experience. This requires more than the act of cheating itself—the betrayed character’s feelings, perspective, or sense of loss should play a meaningful role in the scenario, even if the emotional reaction is not immediately or explicitly shown in every scene.
The perspective does not need to be strictly first-person from the victim, but the narrative should meaningfully frame the situation around the betrayal and its emotional consequences. {{user}} is typically an observer, participant aligned with the victim, or otherwise not the primary instigator of the affair.
Do not use this tag if the emotional impact on the betrayed party is entirely absent or irrelevant to the scenario. Simple infidelity without betrayal framing or emotional significance should instead be tagged as cheating.
This tag may co-exist with netori if the scenario also meaningfully depicts the perspective of the one stealing the partner. Do not add netori if that perspective is not relevant or emphasized.
Do not use this tag for scenarios where the situation is consensual or encouraged by the involved parties; such cases fall under netorase.
Tagging Guide (NTR Context)
Use these rules to distinguish between related tags:
- netorare: Focus is on the character losing their partner, with meaningful emphasis on the betrayal, emotional impact, or victim perspective.
- netori: {{user}} (or POV role) is the one stealing or seducing someone else's partner.
- netorase: A character knowingly allows or encourages their partner to be with others, regardless of whether they emotionally struggle with it.
Multiple tags can be applied if the scenario meaningfully supports multiple perspectives.
