fantasy

Definition

Fantasy is a broad genre encompassing fictional settings and narratives that feature magical or supernatural elements fundamentally different from the real world. Common tropes include the presence of magic systems, mythical creatures such as dragons and elves, medieval or pre-industrial societies, and quests or adventures involving magical artifacts or beings.

The fantasy genre is incredibly diverse and can range from lighthearted fairy tale settings to epic high fantasy worlds with complex lore and multiple fictional races. What unites all fantasy content is the departure from reality through the inclusion of the impossible or supernatural.

Usage

Apply this tag to characters, settings, or scenarios that clearly take place within a fantasy world or involve fantasy genre elements. This includes characters who are fantasy races such as elves, dwarves, or orcs, as well as humans who exist in a fantasy setting like a medieval kingdom with magic.

For content that features grittier, more mature, or horror-oriented fantasy themes such as grimdark worlds, heavy corruption, or excessive violence within a fantasy setting, use dark_fantasy instead. Posts may feature both tags if they contain a mix of standard and dark fantasy elements, though dark_fantasy should take priority when the overall tone is notably grim or bleak.
