Definition
Humanoid refers to a non-human character whose primary body plan resembles that of a human, particularly in having a bipedal, upright posture and a human-like arrangement of the head, torso, arms, and legs.
Humanoid describes physical form rather than species, personality, intelligence, or behavior. A character may be humanoid regardless of whether they are an alien, demon, spirit, monster, robot, elf, or other non-human being.
Usage
Apply this tag to non-human characters whose overall body structure is predominantly human-like and bipedal.
Examples include:
- Elves, demons, angels, oni, and other humanoid fantasy species
- Humanoid aliens
- Human-shaped spirits or monsters
- Androids or robots with human-like bodies
- Animal-derived characters whose body has been substantially adapted to a human-like, bipedal form
Do not use this tag for ordinary humans. Use human instead.
Do not apply this tag solely because a character has human intelligence, speech, emotions, or behavior. The character must have a substantially human-like physical body plan.
Do not confuse this tag with anthropomorphic. Humanoid describes the character's body plan, while anthropomorphic describes a non-human character being given substantial human characteristics. Many bipedal anthropomorphic characters are also humanoid, but a character can be humanoid without being anthropomorphic.
Related Tags
Use furry and anthropomorphic where appropriate. Characters that retain a fully animal-like, non-humanoid body plan should instead use feral when they are established as sapient individual characters and simply animal when not.
Characters that are essentially human apart from minor animal features such as ears or a tail may use kemonomimi where applicable.
