Definition

Teenager refers to a character who is within the age range of 13 to 19 years old. This tag denotes the general life stage between childhood and young adulthood, encompassing early adolescence through the late teen years.

This tag is intended as a neutral age descriptor to enable more accurate searching, filtering and blacklisting. It does not and should not automatically imply NSFW or NSFL content.

Teenage characters are a staple of fiction, particularly in settings revolving around high_school or middle_school. The teenage years are often associated with themes of self discovery, coming of age, first relationships, and the social dynamics of school life. In anime and manga specifically, teenage protagonists are overwhelmingly common.

Usage

Apply this tag when a character is explicitly stated to be a teenager or clearly portrayed as being within the 13–19 age range. This includes high_schooler characters as well as teens in non-school settings such as modern slice-of-life, fantasy, or adventure scenarios.

This tag may also be used with young_adult if the age is explicitly stated to be 18–19.

For characters whose exact age is ambiguous, do not assume that the character is either a minor or an adult solely based on youthful appearance or the presence of this tag. The teenager tag alone only indicates an apparent teenage age range and does not by itself imply underage status.

For youthful-looking characters with no explicit age, consider using tags such as petite or flat_chest to describe physical traits instead of inferring age.

NSFL Interaction Rules

This tag may be used on both SFW and NSFW bots for organizational purposes. However, if the bot contains sexualized, exploitative, or otherwise NSFL depictions involving a teenage character established clearly to be 17 or younger, appropriate NSFL tags such as underage must also be applied. Loli or shota tags may also be applied if physical appearance or characterization makes it appropriate.
