Definition
NTR is an umbrella term used to describe a broad spectrum of scenarios involving infidelity, sexual betrayal, or the appropriation of one partner by another. While often associated primarily with netorare (passive loss), the term acts as a blanket category that also encompasses netori (active theft), as well as various complex causal, passive, and forced dynamics where a partner's loyalty or availability is compromised.
Usage
Apply this tag to scenarios where themes of relationship interference, jealousy, or the loss of a partner are foundational to the plot or character interaction. The genre includes diverse permutations that define the scope of this umbrella term.
When to use:
-For scenarios exploring the full range of infidelity dynamics, whether the focus is on the active "theft" of a partner (Netori), the passive "loss" of one (Netorare), or instances where the protagonist encourages the affair (Netorase).
-For narratives involving third-party involvement that fundamentally disrupts an established relationship.
-For scenarios designed to explore the psychological impact, emotional conflict, or power shifts experienced by any party involved—including the person being stolen, the person doing the stealing, or the partner being displaced.
-For scenarios where the conflict is driven by the dynamic of appropriation, even if the primary emotional output is the anger or frustration of an aggrieved party (such as a villainous spouse).
When NOT to use:
-Do not apply this tag to standard, stable polyamorous relationships or consensual open relationships where no betrayal or "theft" is present and the relationship dynamic remains intact.
-Do not apply this tag if the interaction is purely romantic or aspirational without the defining element of partner appropriation or the deliberate disruption of an established bond.
